IN101 Project#2

The competitions work:

My project:

7 Balls is what it took, to materialize my interpretation of the second IN101 (Basics for Interiors) project. “Manipulation of the wheelchair” into a non-literal sculpture, through the eyes of the artist Chuck Close. “Confinement of body & freedom of mind” is the concept I chose for my sculpture, inspired by the incredible drive my artist of choice shows in his work. Incredible drive, even after he suffered a spinal artery collapse in 1988. Chuck Close (1940), an American artist and print master, who is part of the photorealism/hyperrealism art movement. Most of his art is completed on a huge scale & on a grid, working intensively with “gestalt”. Meaning that one can look at his pictures up close & one will only be able to see a grid work of circular, organic shapes and only once one has stepped farther away from the picture is it recognizable as a whole, which in majority cases would be a portrait. These huge paintings are hung in machinery that allows Close to rotate the picture via machine, so he can work on whichever part of the picture he needs, without having to move out of his wheelchair. This kind of work is often inspired or based off of an actual photographic still. A lot of his early work was giant portraits based off of photos.
